Roadway Friendliness Tool

Treatment 1: Advance Street Name Signs

Michigan Standard: This treatment is not required, but is recommended for communities.

Where might you find this on your system: You might find this on the main road approaches to rural or suburban intersections.

Recommendation: Advance Stop Signs and Intersection Ahead signs are often used by road authorities to provide early notice of upcoming rural or suburban intersections. Why not add a street nameplate to each of these signs?

Conflicts with other community goals: No conflicts with any other treatments have been identified.

Ease of implementation: Street name plaques are easy to make or purchase. Material would match whatever material is currently in use. Generally, a one-person crew is needed to install these signs; no special equipment is needed and only basic skills.
