Excessive Older Driver (70+) Crash
Profile
Michigan
For each Michigan county listed there are three numbers:
- 70+ Injury Rank: Where does each county rank in terms of the percentage
of age 70 and older deaths and disabling injuries based on five years
of data from police crash records? For example, Huron County had a high
number of injuries and a high percentage of all serious injuries from
these older drivers. So, they rank first in Michigan in older driver
injuries.
- % Population 70+: This is the percent of all county residents over
70 years of age based on 2000 census data. For example, 14.5% of all
Huron County residents are age 70 and older.
- % Change 90-00: This is the percent change in county residents age
70 and older from the 1990 to the 2000 census. For example, Huron County
had a 17.1 percent increase in residents age 70 and older from 1990
to 2000.
To determine risk, if a county has a high Injury Rank, has a high percentage
of residents 70 and older, and this population is growing quickly, then
the county may have an older driver challenge. For example, Huron County
is first in Injury Rank, they have a high population of individuals age
70 and older (14.5), and this population is growing rapidly in their county
with a 17.1% increase from 1990 to 2000. Here are the data for all counties
in Michigan:
